Ring Promoter: Modern CI/CD You Cannot Miss for AI-Powered Deployments
WorkstationAugust 21, 20262 min read
Ring Promoter is the modern CI/CD control plane you cannot miss for AI-powered deployments — ordered rings int → test → acc → prod, health-gated promotion, version-verified checks, and auto-rollback. Product: /ring-promoter. Deep dive: long article. Site: ringpromoter.com.
What it is
Ring Promoter is a small, production-grade promotion control plane. It runs as a long-lived service (typically on k3s), exposes a JSON REST API and an embedded web UI, and tracks current/previous versions plus full history per (application, ring). Kubernetes apps and VM/CI apps share one surface — the deployer is chosen per application.
The rings
- int — Integration: first landing for new builds and AI / API changes.
- test — Test: automated and QA validation.
- acc — Acceptance: business / staging gate.
- prod — Production: the only ring that serves customers.
Why AI teams need it
Model weights, agent runtimes, MCP gateways, and inference sidecars ship on different cadences. A plain “green health check” can lie when an old version still answers 200. Ring Promoter’s optional version-verified health requires the endpoint to report the exact version just deployed — otherwise auto-rollback kicks in. Auto-promote can rush early rings while humans keep the gate to prod.
Deployers
- KubectlDeployer —
set image+ rollout status for Kubernetes. - GitHubActionsDeployer — workflow-dispatch for VM/CI apps (reuse existing pipelines).
- k8sjob — runner Jobs with live logs and exit-code success.
